About Us
Who we are
The Green Mountain Dog Club is an AKC member club in central Vermont. Our membership includes dog owners, trainers and competitors in a variety of dog sports, show exhibitors, and committed responsible breeders.
What we do
The Green Mountain Dog Club meets monthly in Waterbury, Vermont. The second weekend in July, the Green Mountain Dog Club, along with our sister organization, Woodstock Dog Club, hosts the Vermont Scenic Circuit Dog Shows — four days of AKC dog shows, rally trials, and obedience trials at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds. Our popular FastCAT Fun Runs take place at Dac Rowe Field in Waterbury in May and December. A variety of other fun and educational events happen over the rest of the year, with more to come!
Mission Statement
The Green Mountain Dog Club is dedicated to promoting the advancement of purebred dogs through education, ethical breeding, and responsible ownership. We strive to foster a community of dog enthusiasts by hosting conformation shows, obedience trials, and public education programs. Committed to canine welfare, we support rescue efforts, health initiatives, and scholarships for future animal science professionals. Through outreach, training, and competition, we uphold the traditions of sportsmanship while encouraging responsible stewardship of our canine companions.
Membership
Membership is open to all dog owners and dog lovers in northern and central Vermont. We offer an evolving variety of activities, from our annual show week to monthly meetings, training opportunities, FastCat Fun Days in spring and fall, a late summer member picnic, and more.
Be aware that a dog club, especially a small club like ours, relies upon its members to step up and volunteer for events sponsored by the club — especially the four days of dog shows in July, and the two weekends of FastCAT Fun Runs in May and September. Our goal is for every member to be involved at these events. In addition to helping with the show and FastCAT, members have the opportunity to be involved wherever their interests and experience lie — we need people who can lead handling classes and a proposed juniors program, point people for AKC “event in a box” popup activities in various towns around our region, board members, and people with an interest in outreach, public education, legislation, and welfare. Work, yes — but fun and fellowship too.
Prospective members must attend a minimum of two meetings and/or club activities. You will need two sponsors for your application, which is read twice before being put to a vote for approval. Don’t worry — we are very friendly, but we do want to get to know you and be sure of your commitment to our group before you join!
