Rules to remember
- You may not enter more than two dogs per time block. You need time between dogs to be sure your dog drinks, adjust shade, etc. If you enter two dogs, you MUST bring a helper and be prepared to do a lot of running because of the logistics of shunting dogs to and from your crating area and the release/catch areas.
- Six months is the minimum age to run. Growing youngsters six to 12 months old may only run a shortened 50-yard course. Use your discretion about “teenage” dogs — the growth plates may not close til 18 months or older in large breeds, 24 months in giant breeds.
- Bitches in season may not be on the grounds. Intact bitches will be asked to take a “tissue test” at check-in.
- Aggressive or out of control dogs (and humans) will be asked to leave.
- Please be sure you are coming before placing your entry. We cannot give refunds.
What to bring
- Bring ice, and whatever you need to keep your dogs cool — crates, fans, tarps or tents — have a plan. There isn’t much shade on the field and it will be too hot to leave dogs in the car.
- Don’t forget water bowls, treats or toys, poop bags, and two leashes per dog.
- Each dog needs two handlers — one to release at the beginning of the run and one to catch at the end. The dog’s favorite person should be the catcher. If you don’t have a friend or family member to bring along, we will have experienced volunteers to help.
- You must have two leashes per dog, one for the releaser and one for the catcher.
- Slip collars, harnesses, prongs, etc. are not allowed. Your dog must run with either a buckle collar, snug martingale, or naked. All tags should be removed or taped up.
On the day
- Arrive at least half an hour before your scheduled time so you can set up shade, fans, and water to keep your dog safe and comfortable.
- Take your dog for a walk before they run (and be sure to clean up after!)
- If you’ve had a long drive, walk them enough to warm up their muscles.
- There will be a handler’s orientation at the start of each block.
- Each dog needs two handlers — one to release at the beginning of the run and one to catch at the end. If you don’t have a friend or family member to bring along, we will have experienced volunteers to help.
- Slip collars, harnesses, prongs, etc. are not allowed. Your dog must run with either a buckle collar, snug martingale, or naked. All tags should be removed or taped up.
- You must have two leashes per dog, one for the releaser and one for the catcher.
- Please keep a safe distance from other dogs.
- Bring your own water and bowls. Do not share.
- Any dog showing signs of illness needs to stay home.
- Bitches in season may not be on the grounds. Intact bitches will be asked to take a “tissue test” at check-in.
- Aggressive or out of control dogs (and humans) will be asked to leave.
